The collection consists of nine "deal books," which date from 1953 to 1973, that document the sale or purchase of large amounts of stock by members of the extended Mellon family, their charitable foundations, and their trusts or estates. Nathan W. Pearson served as the Mellon family's agent or trustee in each of these deals. The transactions involved the sale of stock in Gulf Oil Corporation, the Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA), and the Carborundum Company, and the purchase of shares in the Hanna Mining Company. The records contained in the deal books include agreements between the sellers and underwriters, prospectuses and other literature advertising the offer, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filings, and other routine correspondence.
